Abstract

The paper highlights the plots, myths, and ideologemes found in the scholarly legacy of Mykola Sulyma (1947–2023). Key themes include the myth about hetman Ivan Mazepa, the anti-myth of Mazepa and his followers, a pseudo-myth about Novorossia, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as a fragment of the European myth about Ukraine, the literary group ‘Urbino’ as a Ukrainian myth about Italy, and a pseudo-myth about the brotherhood of the Ukrainian and Russian peoples. Some of the mentioned myths and ideologemes were considered by the researcher occasionally, while others were addressed in his conference papers and published articles. M. Sulyma tirelessly defended thousand-year-old Ukrainian traditions in geopolitics, state-building, culture, and especially literature.
